남궁억의 애국계몽사상에 대한 실천방안 제언

국문 초록

현재 우리나라는 주변국과 협력(協力)·대치(對峙)가 반복되고 있다. 이에 이 글은 남궁억이 일제강점기에 펼쳤던 애국계몽사상을 재고하여 애국심을 고취하는데 기여하려는 목적이 있다. 남궁억에 관한 선행연구는 그의 교육 활동과 무궁화 보급 활동에 중점을 둔 연구가주를 이루고, 그의 언론·애국·신앙 활동 등이 일부 연구되었다. 선행연구의 공통점은 그의 ‘애국 활동의 생애 과정’을 고찰한 것이다. 그런데 본고는 그의 애국계몽사상을 구국 활동을 통한 자아실현이라고 여긴다. 그리고 그의 자아실현 활동을 포괄하여 ‘애국계몽사상의 실천’이라고 보고, 계몽의 대상이 다수임을 고려하여 ‘무궁화 한반도 자수 지도’의 가치를 논하였다. 이를 위해 논문을 다음과 같이 구성하였다. 2장에서는 남궁억의 생애에 있었던 국권 회복 운동에 대하여 논하였다. 그리고 3장에서는 남궁억의 무궁화 계몽방법을 논하면서, 그가 고안하여 보급한 ‘무궁화 한반도 자수 지도’에 대하여 분석하였다. 또한, 4장에서는 남궁억의 무궁화 정신을 계승하고자 현대사회의 실천방안으로 나라꽃 무궁화에 대한 인식강화와 법적 지위 확보를 제언하였다. 이 글은 실사구시(實事求是)를 통한 철학적 가치 중 나라꽃 무궁화 정신에 대한 사상실천의 내용분석이라는 데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Korea cooperates with and confronts with neighboring countries at present. This paper aims to inspire Koreans’ patriotism by studying his mass education campaign for patriotism which he conducted during the era under the colonial administration of imperial Japan. Most previous studies on Namgung eok covered his educational activities and activities of disseminating Mugunghwa. Some studies on Namgung eok covered his activities of press·patriotism·faith. Previous studies on Namgung eok have examination of life course in his patriotic activities in common. By the way, this paper regard a mass education campaign for patriotism of Namgung eok as a self-realization through the activities of save the country activity. And treats the value of ‘rose of sharon embroidered map of Korean peninsular ’ considering that many people were the target of mass education campaign seeing his self-realization activities as the practice of enlightenment for patriotism. To this end, the paper was organized as follows. Chapter 2 treats in relation to National Sovereignty Restoration Campaign of his life course. Chapter 3 analyzes ‘rose of sharon embroidered map of Korean peninsular ’ which he devised and disseminated dealing with Namgung eok’s method of practicing mass education for Mugunghwa. Chapter 4 proposes strengthening Koreans’ awareness of Mugunghwa, a national flower of Korea and legal status of Mugunghwa to succeed to his spirit. This paper is significant in that it analyzes Namgung eok’s practice of Mugunghwa, a national flower of Korea among philosophical values through applying justly all that you learn.
