영문 초록

Won, MyongOck. 2021. “Difficulties and methods in learning English prepositions.” J ournal of British & American Language, Literature and E ducation 35(1), 51-71. This paper aims at exploring possible difficulties EFL learners can face in learning English prepositions mainly through literature reviews. Some grammatical and semantic factors were identified: the number, the parts of speech, the position, the ellipsis of prepositions were involved in grammatical difficulties, and the number of senses, semantic similarities between different prepositions were causes of problems for English leaners. Three different methods in teaching and learning English prepositions were discussed: the traditional, the collocation, and the prototype methods. It is suggested that utilizing different methods, rather than being obsessed to one way and rejecting another, could contribute more to improving the learners’ competence in English prepositions.
