明末 日用類書 및 《三才圖會》에 재현된 ‘고려국’, 그리고 中華觀

국문 초록

본고는 중국 明末의 日用類書와 《三才圖會》에 수록된 한반도 관련 地圖, 人物圖 및 텍스트를 주요 연구대상으로 삼아 그 특징과 의미를 고찰하였다. 明代 후기 異域에 대한 박물학적 관심 증대와 출판문화의 흥성이라는 문화적 맥락 속에서, 이미지와 텍스트가 결합된 異域 관련 콘텐츠가 다양한 버전으로 대량 출판, 유통되었다. 이들 자료는 ‘高麗’를 포함한 異域 관련 정보를 직관적인 이미지와 더불어 짤막한 텍스트로 단순화하여 보급함으로써, 관련 지식의 확산에 크게 기여하였다. 그러나, 그러한 지식은 뿌리 깊은 ‘중국’적 天下觀念과 華夷觀이 강하게 투영된 것이었다. 이러한 관념은 이미지와 텍스트 자체는 물론 그것을 둘러싼 파라텍스트와 상호텍스트성, 분류 체계 등 컨텍스트를 통해 중층적으로 구조화된 양상을 보여준다. 실제와 상상의 경계가 모호한 텍스트 공간 속에서 독자들은 자의적으로 가공된 異域 정보를 유희적으로 향유하는 가운데 자연스럽게 中華的 세계관을 내면화함과 동시에 異域에 대한 편향된 인식을 각인할 수 있었다. 결과적으로 일용유서와 《삼재도회》 속의 한반도 및 異域 관련 내용은 ‘중국’을 구성하고 재생산하는 데 이바지하면서, ‘중국’적 천하질서라는 이념을 목적으로 이역을 專有한 셈이다. 이들 자료가 시각적 이미지와 단순화한 텍스트를 통해 ‘중국’적 천하관념과 華夷觀을 드러내는 전략은 일종의 ‘이마골로기(imagology)’로서의 면모를 보여준다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This article studied the characteristics and meanings of maps, portraits, and texts related to the Korean Peninsula in Encyclopedias for Daily Use(日用類書) and Sancaituhui(《三才圖會》) in the late Ming Dynasty by making them the main subject of the study. A lot of different versions of content related to alien land(異域) that images are combined with texts were published and distributed in the late Ming Dynasty because of a growing interest in it from the viewpoint of natural history and in the cultural context of prosperous publication culture. These materials made a great contribution to the spread of related knowledge by simplifying and distributing information related to alien land including ‘Korea(高麗)’ to be the short texts with eidetic imagery. However, the deep-rooted Chinese ideas of the World(天下觀念) and Hua Yi(華夷觀) were strongly reflected in such knowledge. These ideas show the multi-layeredly structuralized aspect through the contexts including the images and texts themselves, the paratexts around them, intertextuality, the system of classification, etc. Readers naturally internalized the sinocentric view of the world and at the same time, skewed perceptions of alien land might have been stamped on them while enjoying the alien land information that were arbitrarily processed in text space with blurred boundaries between reality and imagination playfully. In conclusion, the contents related to the Korean Peninsula and alien land in Encyclopedias for Daily Use and Sancaituhui have alien land to themselves(專有) for the ideological purpose of Chinese World Order making a contribution to forming and reproducing ‘China.’ The strategy that these materials reveal the Chinese ideas of the World and Hua Yi through visual images and simplified texts shows an aspect of ‘imagology’.
