영문 초록

Compared to the domestic demand of foreign dramas in China, overseas films and television programs imported to China are in short supply due to strict regulations of Chines government. Therefore many Chinese resorts to the internet for overseas dramas and films. A large number of subtitle communities translating overseas film and television programs into Chinese are active on the Internet. With the efforts of subtitle communities, overseas film and television programs are transferred to Chinese in an acceptable manner. The subtitle communities opened up a new channel for overseas dramas for Chinese, which breaks cultural barriers and promotes intercultural communication. The translation of ancient sutras represented by Xuanzang and Kumarajiva, the translation of modern western culture by Yan Fu, Lin Shu as representatives, and the systematic translation of the modern western humanities and social science works represented by Joint Publishing Company and Shanghai Translation Publishing House, have played a pivotal role in the cultural exchange of China and other countries. In current Internet and Information era, as a voluntary non-governmental organization, the ever growing subtitle communities which used to be at grass-roots level has now been the pioneer of cultural exchanges between China and other countries. As folk translation forces in the new translation boom, subtitle groups have opened up a new “path” for the “bring in” and “go global” of the culture. Subtitle groups lead the new translation boom, and create a new situation in cultural exchange. However, the study on the significance and development of subtitle groups is still in exploration. Under this background, this thesis takes China’s Korean subtitle groups as an example, discusses its development process and briefly analyzes the historical mission it should bear and the significance of its existence.
