국문 초록

인도네시아 서부 자바 주 여러 산간 마을에서 소규모 금광이 활발히 진행 중이다. 채굴한 흙과 돌을 파쇄하여 슬러지 상태로 만들고 이에 수은을 첨가하여 수은과 금의 아말감 합금을 만든다. 아말감을 토치를 이용하여 가열하면 수은은 증발하고 금은 남게 된다. 이 과정 중 작업자들은 발생하는 수은 증기에 대한 보호장비나 안전 시스템 없이 일하고 있어서 수은중독에 노출되어 있다. 발생하는 수은 증기를 회수하기 위해 적정기술을 이용한 수은 증기 회수장치를 개발 하였다. 레톨트형과 박스형 두가지 형태의 장치를 개발하여 현장에서 테스트하였고 각각 발생하는 문제점들에 대한 개선을 시도하였다.

영문 초록

Small gold mines are underway in several mountain villages in western Java, Indonesia. The mined soil and stone are crushed and made as sludge, and mercury is added to form gold/mercury amalgam. When the amalgam is burned to separate the gold from the mixture, mercury in the amalgam evaporates and the gold remains. Workers barely use any safety equipment and are exposed to mercury poising. To capture back the problematic mercury vapor, the mercury vapor recovery system using appropriate technology was developed. The retort type and box type devices were developed and tested in the field, and improved the problems occurred.
