국문 초록

본고에서는 불에 탄 《승정원일기》의 개수작업에 대한 기록인 《개수일기등록(改修日記謄錄)》과 《일기청개수등록(日記廳改修謄錄)》을 통하여 그 개수과정을 살펴보았다. 《승정원일기(承政院日記)》가 화재(火災)로 인해 소실된 뒤, 다시 소실된 《승정원일기》의 기록을 복원하는 과정에서 남은 자료인 《개수일기등록》은 영조 22년부터 이듬해까지 계속된 개수과정에 대한 기록이며, 《일기청개수등록》은 고종 27년(1890)에 있었던 개수 작업에 대한 기록이다. 이 기록에는 소실된 기록을 복원하자는 발의에서부터 완성까지, 등장하는 인물이나 그들의 작업 내용과 근무 일수, 개수과정의 세부적인 논의, 각각의 규정, 소용되는 물품 등에 대한 정보가 고스란히 실려 있는 것이 이들 등록이었다. 특히 서울과 지방의 관청은 물론 개인의 문집도 아울러 수집하여 부족한 자료를 보완하였음을 알 수 있었다. 나아가 본고에서는, 《승정원일기》의 개수가 사료비판의 관점에서 보면 예사롭지 않은 문제를 제기한다고 보았다. 학계에서 명시적, 암묵적으로 통용되고 있는 견해와는 달리, 적어도 개수된 《승정원일기》 는 실제 내용에 있어서 타다 남은 기록을 모았거나, 다른 자료에서 베껴서 다시 만든 제2의 《승정원일기》라는 점에서 전혀 1차 자료 로 볼 수 없다. 원래 주서가 편찬해놓은 《승정원일기》의 경우에도 자료의 성격을 어떻게 볼 것인가 하는 사료비판의 여지는 남아 있다. 이런 점은 기록학의 이론을 통해 차후 보완해야할 것이다.

영문 초록

In this article, I studied the restoration of the burned Secretary s Diary by examining two records that recorded the procedure of the restoration. The one is the Registry of the restoration of the Secretary s Diary that was concerned to the restoration in the Youngjo s reign(22th years. 1746) and the other is the Registry of the restoration office of the Secretary s Diary that was concerned to the restoration in the Kojong s reign(27th years. 1890). In these registries, we can find the whole procedure of the suggestion and the processes of the restoration. And these registries showed the business itself, the days of services, rules and guidelines, materials and things being consumed in relation with the restoration. Especially I arranged the books and records that used in reconstructing the burned Secretary s Diary. Furthermore, I suggested a problem of text-critic(Quellenskunde). In the academic society of Korea, the Secretary s Diary has been regarded as a primary source in historical research. However, can we regarded the restored Secretary s Diary as a primary source? And is the Secretary s Diary itself also a primary source? It will be an another step to text-critic that need the help of archival studies or diplomatics.
