영문 초록

This study was undertaken to analyze the growth disturbance in the middle third of the face in surgically repaired complete unilateral cleft lip and palate at different times. The subjects consisted on 20 patients(Group Ⅰ) received palatoplasty which was performed before 4 years of age, 20 patients(Group Ⅱ) received palatoplasty, performed after 5 years of age, and 30 normal controls(Control group). Their lateral cephalograms and dental casts were analyzed. The results were as follows; 1) The maxilla was well developed in group Ⅱ compared with group Ⅰ in the anteroposterior dimension (p＜0.01). 2) In vertical maxillary development, posterior development was deficient in group Ⅰ compared with group Ⅱ (p＜0.05), but anterior development was similar. And superior anterior facial proportion, cleft patients showed low values (p＜0.01). 3) In maxillary length, group Ⅱ was longer than group Ⅰ (p＜0.05). 4) Group Ⅰ and Ⅱ showed constricted dental arch compared with the control group in lateral dimension (p＜0.01). 5) In maxillary protrusion, group Ⅰ and Ⅱ was retracted compared with the normal control group (p＜0.01). 6) In anteroposterior development of maxillary dentoalveolar process, group Ⅰ was deficient compared with group Ⅱ and the control group (p＜0.05). 7) The vertical development of maxillary dentoalveolar process showed little difference in group Ⅰ and Ⅱ.
