세월호 참사로 야기된 위기 극복을 위한 세종대왕 소통리더십

국문 초록

본고는 세월호 참사의 원인 중 하나가 소통하지 못하는 사회가 낳은 부작용이라는 진단 하에 <<세종실록>>이라는 고전의 지혜에서 소통리더십을 위한 해답의 실마리를 찾는 데 연구 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 먼저 소통을 메시지 송수신 과정으로 규정하고 설득을 소통의 목적으로 간주하는 서구의 소통관을 비판하고, 대안으로 공동체의 아름다움을 이루고 타자의 인격적 성장을 돕는 것을 궁극적 목적으로 삼는 동양의 소통관을 제시한다. 이에 따라 "인"(仁)에 내포된 소통의 원리와 세종의 정치비전을 통해 정치와 소통의 관계를 고찰하고, 생생지락(生生之樂)의 나라를 만들기 위해 세종이 어떻게 인을 소통의 수단으로 활용하는지 설명한다. 그런 다음 정치 리더십 요체로 추진력, 소통, 비전 제시 능력을 제시하는 증자를 예로 들어 소통과 리더십의 관계를 논한다. 아울러 세종이 왜 '소통하지 않는 정치는 이미 정치가 아니'라고 생각하는지, 그리고 언어 사용 능력을 왜 리더의 덕목으로 손꼽는지 설명한다. 이런 내용들이 본고의 1부를 구성한다. 2부는 세종대왕 대화법을 '경청', '배려심', '중용', '분석력', '상호작용', '진정성' 등으로 나누어 기술하는 것에 할애된다. 먼저 세종의 성품과 관련해서 허조가 남긴 유언을 토대로 소통리더십에 있어 수신(修身)과 경청의 중요성을 부각시킨다. 그리고 "부민고소금지법" 개정안 논쟁에 주목해 대화할 때 세종이 어떻게 중용의 지혜를 활용하는지 보여준다. 또한 "율법 번역"과 "청계천 정비"를 둘러싼 논쟁을 예로 들어 논리력과 합리적 사고가 생산적인 소통의 전제임을 논증한다. 한편, 대마도 정벌과 제1차 파저강 토벌을 통해 아버지 태종 이방원과 아들 세종의 대화법을 비교함으로써 언어적 상호작용의 중요성을 강조한다. 그리고 세종에 대한 율곡 이이의 평가와 황희 정승과의 대화와 관련된 사료를 토대로 우리는 세종이 어떻게 말을 일과 통하게 하는지 보여준다. 리더는 또한 상대방의 감정을 이해하고 공감할 수 있는 비전과 사명감으로 구성원들의 마음을 움직일 수 있어야 한다는 생각으로 우리는 일화를 통해 세종의 '진성리더십'을 고찰한다. 마지막으로 세종 소통리더십을 적용함으로써 세월호 참사로 드러난 소통 부재 및 리더십 위기에 대한 해답의 단초를 제공하고 관련 문제를 다루는 공론장에서 그것이 갖는 현대적 함의를 되새긴다.

영문 초록

This paper involves describing King Se-Jong the Great's communicative leadership in order to figure out clues for the absence of communication widely pervasive in our society and that we believe had something to do with the national crisis due to the disaster of . On the background of such a diagnostics of the state quo and the goal of research, the first thing we should do is to question occidental theories of communication(aristotelian persuasive rhetorics, theory of communication and information by Shannon & Weave) in order to review communicative values originating in etymologies of communication as well as in "In"(仁), core notion of Confusianism regarded as being a "religion designed for the society ethically correct and whose the morals is realized based on humanism". On the other hand, we find it relevant to give account of how King Se-Jong the Great draws his political vision from "In". Upon examination of the occidental vision on communication and reevaluation of the meanings implied in the communicative act itself, we put forward a proposal that the ultimate goal of communication be supposed to contribute to the 'beauty' of community and the Other's moral growing up. Next theme we take a look at concerns the position Zungza(one of the five saints from Asia) adopt as for the question of what relations to establish between communication and leadership. It is also important for us to explain why King Se-Jong thinks that it is no more politics when one does not communicate with each other and that the communicative competence is constitutive of the aptitudes necessary for whoever wants to be leader. We finally describe King Se-Jong the Great's leadership in focusing on characteristics of his talk style such as attentive listening, caring for other's mind, interaction, analytic competence, authenticity. The general conclusion is then dedicated to giving a resume of King Se-Jong the Great's talk style before underlying its importance in getting out of the crisis of communication and leadership we face today.
