영문 초록

The recent studies on the sustainability of tourism(ST) have focused on defining the concept of it. For this trend, though some works such as the practical measurement and evaluation of the ST are important too, arguments and attempts to apply the sustainable tourism have been not enough. In this context, this study attempted to measure the level of five basic constructs related to the ST, i.e. its economic contribution, its socio-cultural suitability, its ecological conservation, the political support, the market competitiveness, and the final level of the ST. To achieve these goals, theoretically proposed measurement model of the ST was developed and then has been validated the fitness. Ninety questionaires were collected from professors, journalists, public officials, and NGO relatives linked with tourism sector in Jeju Island And the proposed model was proved to be accepted with a covariance structure analysis procedure by the AMOS 4.0 Package. The result of measuring ST in Jeju Island, its economic contribution is 3.195, its socio-cultural suitability 3.648, its ecological conservation 2.883, the political support 3.368, the market competitiveness 2.885, and the consequent final level cf the ST 3.162 on five scale. Finally, using formula for outputting sustainable tourism index, this study could obtain some policy informations, that the policy priority for the ST in Jeju Island should be focused on the conservation-oriented tourism development and the residents! support.
