국문 초록

영국 초·중등학교에서 야외조사활동은 지리교육과정 및 자격시험(GCSE, A- level)의 중요한 부분이다. 학생들은 야외조사활동을 통해 지역문제를 인식하고, 데이터를 수집·분석·표현하고, 결론을 내리고, 조사과정을 평가한다. 평가기관이 야외조사활동의 주제를 제시하면 학교에서는 주변지역과 학생들을 고려하여 질문을 개발한다. 특히 GCSE 지리과목의 야외조사활동은 수행평가 방식으로 1달 이상 동안 진행되어 실질적인 조사경험의 제공과 과정중심의 평가가 가능하다. 성공적인 야외조사활동이 가능하기 위해서는 교사와 학생 간 평가기관과 학교(교사) 간의 신뢰, 지역공동체와 전문학회의 지원, 실제적인 학습에 대한 공감대가 필수적이다.

영문 초록

Fieldwork constitutes an essential part of the national geography curriculum and the GCSE and A-level geography. Geography fieldwork focuses on real-world research experience for students by involving them in perceiving geographical issues in local area, collecting, organizing and presenting the primary data, writing a report and evaluating their own research. Based on geographical themes announced by the awarding bodies, local schools devise specific issues or questions for geography fieldwork allowing the use of local resources available. Especially the GCSE geography fieldwork, which is conducted internally for over one month, enables authentic inquiry experience and process-oriented assessment. Essential prerequisites for successful geography fieldwork in primary and secondary schools include the trustworthy relationship between local schools and awarding bodies and between teachers and students, support from local community and professional organizations, and emphasis on authentic learning.
