영재교육의 수직적 연계 현황 및 발전 방안

국문 초록

영재성을 보이는 학생은 지속적인 영재교육을 통해 자아실현을 하고 사회에 공헌할수 있는 인재로 자랄 수 있도록 해야 한다. 이를 위해서는 이 학생들이 지속적으로 영재교육을 받을 수 있도록 해야 하며 초-중-고 학교급간에 수직적인 연계가 구축되어야 한다. 그러나 영재교육이 시작된 지 약 10여년이 지난 지금까지 이 학생들이 초등학교, 중학교를 거쳐 고등학교 영재교육기관까지 진학하면서 지속적으로 영재교육을 받을 수 있었는지, 지속적인 영재교육을 받을 수 있도록 초-중-고 학교급간의 수직적 연계가 구축되어 있는지에 대한 현황도 명확히 파악되어 있지 않은 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 영재학교 및 과학고등학교 재학생, 영재교육 담당 교사를 대상으로 설문을 통해 수직적 연계 현황을 파악하고 그 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 수직적 연계는 학생의 지속적인 영재교육 수혜 측면과 영재교육기관 간의 연계 측면 두 부분으로 나누어진다. 연구 결과 학생의 지속적인 영재교육 수혜 측면에서 살펴볼 때 과학 고등학교나 영재학교로 진학한 학생의 약 80% 정도가 영재교육 수혜 경험이 있는 학생들이었다. 그러나 고등학교로 진학하기 직전까지 지속적으로 영재교육을 받은 학생은 36.2%로 대다수 학생들은 영재교육 도중에 교육을 받지 못하는 공백기가 생겼던 것으로 나타났다. 영재교육기관 간의 연계 현황에서는 기관간 연계가 거의 이루어지지 않고 있었으며 교사들은 연계는 반드시 필요하다고 인식하고 있었다. 이 결과는 학생 이력 관리와 국가적 차원에서의 교육과정 수준과 기준 제시 등의 제도적 장치를 통해 영재교육이 체계성을 갖춤으로써 학생들의 자아실현에 도움이 되는 영재교육이 되어야 함을 시사하고 있다. 본 연구는 초-중-고에 이르는 영재교육기관의 연계 현황 파악 자체에 그 의의를 가지며 앞으로 영재교육 정책 수립 및 발전에 토대가 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Gifted Students should be able to make self-realization and grow into human resources who can contribute to the society through gifted education. To this end, these students should be able to receive continuous gifted education and vertical linkage between elementary, middle, and high schools should be established. However, now when 10 years has passed since gifted education started, whether gifted students were able to receive gifted education continuously through elementary, middle, and high schools and whether there was vertical linkage between elementary, middle, and high schools has not been clearly researched. Accordingly, this study intended to examine the current status of vertical linkage through a survey of students at science high schools and teachers in charge of gifted students, and to derive suggestive points. Vertical linkage is divided into an aspect of continuously receiving gifted education and an aspect of linkage between institutions for gifted education. According to the result, in terms of continuous reception of gifted education, about 80% who entered science high schools had received gifted education before. However, the rate of those who had continuously received gifted education was 36.2% and a majority of students had some periods when they did not receive such education. As for the current status of linkage between institutions for gifted students, there was almost no linkage but teachers thought that such linkage was necessary. The above result suggests that education for gifted students should become systematic through institutional tools such as management of students' history and provision of curriculum levels and standards on a national level so that such education can be helpful to those students' self-realization. This study is meaningful in that it looked at linkage between elementary, middle, and high schools for gifted students and will be a ground for establishing and developing policies for gifted students.
