영문 초록

Machengzi culture, one of the earliest bronze culture ever found in Liaodong region, was flourishing at 20th to 13th century B.C. As the people of this culture tried to build the tomb within the cave in the mountain region, remains excavated in the cave could be used as a basis for understanding the characteristics of this culture. The tomb constructed within the cave was not laid underground, but was on the surface of the earth, which was finished by building the mound over a grave. On the other hand, in the other cases of the tombs within the cave, the deceased was laid within the stone coffin, which was half-buried underground. As to the earthenware, most of them belong to the andecocrate crockery among which flask type jar or Jar were plentifully discovered. For the bronze ware, the presence of ornament was reported even though the number of the remains were not so many. As to the origin of Machengzi culture, it has not been completely confirmed which preceding cultures affect the formation of this culture. However, some preceding cultures which might correlate with Machengzi culture were identified. Among these, it should be noted that Pianfuzi culture, which was flouring in Shenyang area, Liaoning Province, was thought to have direct correlation with the beginning of the Machengzi culture because banding jar and Four ear jar found in Pinfuzi culture seemed to affect those of Machengzi culture. On the other hand, Machengzi culture could be also said to exert remarkable influence on the Stone Coffin culture in Liaodong region, which coincide with an end of Machengzi culture. Considering that Jie-Gawn-Ting and Xituansan culture were culturally influenced by Machengzi culture, it could be said that Machengzi culture Machengzi cultureplayed very important role in the development of bronze culture in Laodong region.
