Lee, Kyoung-nam. 2003.A New Method of Teaching English Grammar in College. English Language and Linguistics 15, 99-127. this research was carried out for two purposes: (1) to collect and analyze data for a model of English grammar for college students, and (2) to assess the efficiency of context-based teaching of English grammar. In order to collect and analyze data for a model of English grammar for college students, a grammar proficiency test (GPT) was given to subjects. The pretest was done early in March, 2002 and the posttest was given at the end of the same semester. The method was to find out statistical significance in subjects' improvement in grammar proficiency by comparing (1) the results of the pretest with those of the posttest and (2) the improvement of the experimental group with that of the control group. In my lcctures, the combination of form, meaning, and use was emphasized and context-based exercises were done in every class. As a result, the improvement of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. And the difference between the experimental group and the control group was shown to be statistically significant. Thus , a context-based approach to teaching English grammar proved to be effective.
