국문 초록

본 연구는 조선 후기 임오화변(壬午禍變)이라는 비극적 사건을 역사적 배경으로 설정하고, 이 사건의 중심 인물인 사도세자(思悼世子)의 죽음이 유가족 공동체에 미친 정서적 영향과 유가족의 가족감정을 심층적으로 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구방법론으로는 문헌분석을 채택하였으며, 주요 분석 자료는 「한중록」,「조선왕조실록」등 당대 사료를 중심으로 하였다. 분석 결과, 유가족(영조, 혜경궁 홍씨, 정조, 영빈 이씨) 공동체에서 나타난 가족감정은 비통과 후회, 모성애와 희생, 효심과 명예회복, 죄책감과 연민으로 분석되었지만 사도세자의 죽음은 조선시대의‘좋은 죽음(Well-Dying)’과 부합하지 않았다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로, 본 연구는 조선시대 유교 사회의‘좋은 죽음(Well-Dying)’에 대한 근본적인 인식과 가치를 규명하였다. 나아가, 현대 사회복지학에서 논의되는‘좋은 죽음(Well-Dying)' 개념의 역사적 기원을 조선시대 유교적 맥락에서 재탐색하여, 죽음에 대한 사회문화적 의미를 종합적으로 분석하고 재해석하는데 목적이 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to deeply examine the emotional impact and family sentiments within the bereaved family community following the tragic historical event of Imo Tragedy (1762) in the late Joseon period, focusing on the death of Crown Prince Sado, the central figure of the incident. The research methodology adopted is document analysis, primarily utilizing historical records such as Hanjungnok (Record of Sorrowful Days) and the Joseon Wangjo Sillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty). The analysis results showed that the family sentiments observed within the bereaved family community (King Yeongjo, Lady Hyegyeong, King Jeongjo, and Royal Noble Consort Yeongbin Lee) were analyzed as grief and regret, maternal love and sacrifice, filial piety and restoration of honor, and guilt and pity. However, the death of Crown Prince Sado was found to be inconsistent with the Joseon era's concept of “Good Death” (Well-Dying). Based on this analysis, this study identified the fundamental perception and values concerning “Good Death” (Well-Dying) in the Confucian society of the Joseon period. Furthermore, the study aims to re-explore the historical origins of the contemporary social welfare concept of “Good Death” (Well-Dying) within the Joseon-era Confucian context, thereby comprehensively analyzing and reinterpreting the socio-cultural meaning of death.
