광주 지역사 서술의 비판적 접근 및 성찰적 대안 - 광주광역시교육청 발행 교재를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 광주교육청 발행 지역사 교재 서술이 지닌 성격을 비판적으로 분석하고, 대안적인 서술 방향을 제시하였다. 광주 지역사 교재는 지난 20년 간 ‘충절과 의로움’에 기반한 내용 및 주제 구성을 중심으로, 서술 대상 시･공간 및 분야 면에서는 일부 진전이 있었다. 그러나 기존 교재 및 단행본의 내용 및 구성이 재활용되는 가운데 성찰적 인식은 부족하였다. 구체적으로는 기존의 국가･민족사는 지역사로 재편되고 절대화되었다. 그리고 호남 지역 우월성은 지나치게 강조되었으나, 일반 지역민의 삶은 소외되었으며, 지역의 문제가 회피되었다는 한계를 지닌다. 이를 극복하기 위한 대안적 서술 방향으로, 기존의 목적론적인 가치에 기반한 지역 정체성 서술이 아닌, 지역의 다양한 행위자를 포괄하며 갈등을 성찰하는 서술, 지역 우월주의를 극복하고 인식을 횡단하는 서술을 제안하였다. 이를 통하여 지역 내 계층･이념 갈등 및 트라우마를 조명하고, 지역 엘리트 서술을 탈피하면서도 다양한 정체성을 포괄하도록 하였다. 또한 지역 우월주의를 객관화할 수 있는 상호 성찰을 유도하고, 호남 지역 내 갈등과 역사 인식 또한 성찰되어야 함을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

This study critically analyzed the characteristics of the narratives of Gwangju local history textbooks, published by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, and suggested alternative directions for historical narrative. Over the past 20 years, Gwangju local history textbooks have made some progress in terms of scope of periods, spaces, and themes to be described, focusing on the content and subject composition based on ‘loyalty and righteousness’. However, while the contents and composition of existing textbooks and books were recycled, critical reflection remained insufficient. Specifically, the existing national history was reorganized into local history and absolutized. Furthermore, while the superiority of the Honam(Jeolla-do) region was overemphasized, the lives of ordinary residents were marginalized. The narratives also had limitations in that internal problems of the region were marginalized. As an alternative narrative direction to overcome these limitations, this study proposes a new approach to local history narratives that (1) encompasses diverse local actors and critically reflects on internal conflicts, (2) overcomes local superiority and transcends local-centric perspectives, rather than essentialized representations of local identity based on predetermined values. Through this, the aim is to shed light on internal conflicts between classes or ideologies, as well as trauma, to include multiple identities while moving away from elite-centered narratives. Finally, this study emphasizes the need for mutual reflection to relativize local superiority, and to examine internal conflicts and historical perception in the Honam region.
