국문 초록

As a unique bodily cultural vessel of Chinese civilization, the modern transformation of traditional martial arts from “clan patrimony” to a “national public institution” profoundly reflects the complex mechanisms of cultural politics within the process of nation-state building. Grounded in the theories of cultural memory and the analytical framework of social space, this study reveals that the public transformation of martial arts during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republican period was not merely an improvement of the technical system. Rather, it was a multidimensional historical process involving the reconfiguration of power, the reshaping of memory, and the cultural recoding of knowledge. When traditional martial arts departed from the closed lineage-based transmission systems and were incorporated into modern educational institutions and the national art (Guoshu) system, their technical frameworks were imbued with the political significance of “strengthening the race and saving the nation,” while their ritual performances were transformed into symbolic acts of national identity. Essentially, this transformation integrated localized knowledge into a crucial component of the Chinese national community’s memory through the standardization and ideologization of bodily techniques. The contemporary challenges faced by martial arts development—including difficulties in transmission and cultural alienation— precisely reflect the unfinished process of reconstructing collective memory amidst the tensions between tradition and modernity. The study concludes that re-examining the historical logic behind martial arts’ transformation holds paradigmatic significance for understanding the modern conversion mechanisms of Chinese cultural genes, and provides an embodied practical pathway for reinforcing the consciousness of the Chinese national community.

영문 초록

传统武术作为中华文明独特的身体文化载体，其从“宗族私产”向“国家公器”的近代转型，深刻映射了民族国家建构进程中文化政治学的复杂机制。本研究基于文化记忆理论与社会空间分析框架，揭示武术在晚清至民国时期的公共化转型并非单纯的技术体系改良，而是涉及权力重构、记忆重塑与文化再编码的多维历史进程。当传统武术脱离宗族血缘的封闭传承体系，被纳入现代教育制度与国术馆系统时，其技术体系被赋予“强种保国”的政治意涵，仪式展演则转化为民族认同的象征符号。这种转型本质上是通过身体技术的标准化与意识形态化，将地方性知识整合为中华民族共同体记忆的重要构件。当代武术发展面临的传承困境与文化异化现象，恰折射出传统与现代性张力下集体记忆重构的未完成性。研究指出，重新审视武术转型的历史逻辑，对理解中华文化基因的现代转化机制具有范式意义，为铸牢中华民族共同体意识提供了具身化的实践路径。
