Examining the Interrelationships among NCAA Collegiate Athletes’ Satisfaction, Team Commitment, Team Performance and Transfer Intention

Purpose: The purpose of study is to examine the structural relationships among athlete satisfaction, team commitment, team performance, and transfer intention in a collegiate sports context. Research design, data, and methodology: A convenience sampling method yielded 245 completed questionnaires from college athletes, of which 10 were excluded for incompleteness, resulting in a final sample of 235 valid responses. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 29.0 and AMOS 29.0, incorporating correlation, reliability, confirmatory factor, and structural equation modeling analyses. Results: Results show that athlete satisfaction positively influenced team commitment and team performance, while negatively affecting transfer intention. Furthermore, team commitment positively influenced team performance, although neither team commitment nor team performance showed a significant impact on transfer intention. Conclusions: These findings offer empirical evidence of the critical role athlete satisfaction plays in shaping both psychological and behavioral outcomes, as well as enhancing organizational efficiency and effectiveness in the collegiate sports setting.
