국문 초록

본 연구는 프랑스 의과대학에서 인문학과 의료인문학 교육이 전개되어 온 역사와 현황을 검토한다. 먼저 18세기 말에서 20세기 말까지 의료인문학의 역사를 개괄한다. 프랑스에서는 18세기 말 의학사 교과목이 의대 교과과정에 자리 잡지만, 19세기 실험의학의 부상과 함께 인문학 교육 전반이 주변화된다. 그러나 1980년대 후반 HIV 바이러스의 확산을 계기로 과학적 의학의 한계에 대한 인식과 인문학 교육의 필요성에 대한 재인식이이뤄진다. 다음으로 의대 교육 과정에 관한 제도의 변천사를 중심으로 1990년대부터 2010년대 말까지 의료인문학의 위상이 어떻게 변화하는지를 검토한다. 이 시기 의료인문학 교육은 제도적 측면에서 보자면 약화되는 것으로 보이지만, 실제적 차원에서는 대학별로 다양화되는 양상을 보인다. 뒤이어 2019년 이후 시작된 대대적인 의학 교육 체계 개편의 주요 사항들을 짚어본다. 이 개편의 결과 ‘보건 교육 공통 1학년 과정’은 ‘보건계열 특화 진입과정’과 ‘보건계열 진입 연계 학사과정’으로, ‘전국 등수 산정 시험’은 ‘국가 전산화 시험’과 ‘구조화된 임상 시험’ 으로 변경된다. 마지막으로 개편된 교육체제에서의 의료인문학 교육 양상을 수도권 일 드 프랑스 소재 6개 대학의 교육과정과 3개의 의료인문학 석사과정을 중심으로 살펴본다. 이러한 검토 결과 프랑스 의료인문학의 여러 고유한 지점이 드러난다. 이는 의료인문학이 단일한 분과라기보다는 여러 학문 분과들 사이의 교류가 이루어지는 장으로 이해될 수 있음을 보여준다. 본 논문은 향후 의료인문학에 대한 조망적 고찰에 쓰일 기초 자료를 제공한다는 데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines the history and current state of humanities and medical humanities education in French medical schools. It first outlines the history of medical humanities from the late eighteenth century to the late twentieth century. In France, medical history courses were introduced into the medical curriculum at the end of the eighteenth century, but with the rise of experimental medicine in the nineteenth century, humanities education as a whole became marginalized. However, the spread of HIV in the late 1980s brought renewed awareness of the limits of scientific medicine and the need for humanities education. The paper then traces the institutional changes in medical education from the 1990s to the late 2010s, focusing on how the status of medical humanities evolved. During this period, medical humanities education appeared to weaken institutionally, but in practice it displayed increasing diversification across universities. The paper next reviews the major reforms to medical education that began in 2019. As a result of these reforms, the Première Année Commune aux Études de Santé (Common first year of health education, PACES) was replaced by the Parcours d’Accès Spécifique Santé (Specific health access pathway, PASS) and the Licences Accès Santé (Health access bachelor’s pathway, LAS), while the Épreuves Classantes Nationales (National ranking examination, ECN) was transformed into the Épreuves Dématérialisées Nationales (National computerized examination, EDN) and the Examens Cliniques Objectifs Structurés (Structured clinical examination, ECOS). Finally, the study analyzes the implementation of medical humanities education within the reformed system, focusing on the curricula of six universities in the Île-de-France region and three master’s programs in medical humanities. The findings highlight several distinctive features of French medical humanities and suggest that medical humanities should be understood not as a single discipline but as a field of exchange among various disciplines. This paper thus provides a foundation for future comparative and comprehensive reflections on medical humanities.
