자이니치의 초월적 정체성 연구: 일본 영화 <용길이네 곱창집>(2018) 캐릭터를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 일본 사회 내에서 부단하게 투쟁해온 자이니치의 정체성에 집중한다. 자이니치는 국민으로서 보호받을 권리를 박탈한 국가에서 국민으로서의 의무는 강요받으나 국가의 보호에서는 배제된 존재로 살아간다. 이에 본 연구는 트랜스아이덴티티스토리텔링 개념을 바탕으로, 자이니치의 삶을 조명한 일본 영화 <용길이네 곱창집> 을 연구 대상으로 삼아, 자이니치의 트랜스아이덴티티를 연구한다. 나아가, 데리다의‘차연(différance)’ 개념을 통해 트랜스아이덴티티 분석의 연장선상에서 자이니치 정체성의 유동성 및 지연 속 의미 생성 과정을 심층적으로 고찰하고자 한다. 연구 결과, 자이니치는 세대별로 정체성의 유형이 상이하게 나타났다. 1세대의 경우, 공간적 전치가 재전환될 수 없다는 현실에 순응하고 일본 사회 내 자이니치로서의 삶을 선택한다. 이로 인해 기존 민족 정체성을 유지하면서도 일본 사회에 동화되고자 노력한다. 반면 2세대의 경우, 출생 혹은 유년기에 이미 전치된 상태로 자이니치 정체성을 부여받으며 성장하였고, 상대적으로 약화된 민족 정체성 대신 자이니치로서의 존재를 개별적이고 주체적인 방식으로 수용하는 양상을 나타낸다. 따라서, 본 연구는 자이니치의 트랜스아이덴티티를 통해 민족·국가 정체성의 경계를 해체하며 유동적이고 다층적인 정체성 전환을 이룬다는 것을 파악했다. 그들의 초월은 보편적이지 않으며, 사회적 조건과 개인의 선택에 따라 다양하게 발현된다. 이러한 정체성의 흐름과 전환은단일한 구조로 환원될 수 없으며, 본 연구는 서사의 구조 속에서 비구조적인 정체성과 의미를 분석하는 것에 의의를 둔다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on the identity of Zainichi Koreans, who have persistently struggled within Japanese society. Zainichi individuals are compelled to fulfillobligations as nationals in a state that denies them the rights of citizenship, thereby living as citizens excluded from state protection. Utilizing the concept of transidentity storytelling, this research examines the Japanese film Yonggili’s Gopchang House to explore the transidentity of Zainichi Koreans. Furthermore, through Derrida’s concept of différance, the study delves into the fluidity and deferred meaning-making processes of Zainichi identity within the framework of transidentity analysis. The findings reveal that Zainichi identity manifests differently across generations. The first generation, confronted with the irreversible reality of spatial displacement, adapts to life as Zainichi within Japanese society, striving to assimilate while maintaining their ethnic identity. In contrast, the second generation, born or raised in a state of displacement, grows up with a Zainichi identity, exhibiting a tendency to embrace their existence as Zainichi in an individual and autonomous manner, often with a relatively weakened sense of ethnic identity. Thus, this study identifies that Zainichi transidentity dismantles the boundaries of ethnic and national identities, achieving fluid and multilayered identity transformations. Their transcendence is not universal but varies according to social conditions and personal choices. These flows and transitions of identitycannot be reduced to a single structure; therefore, this research places significance on analyzing non-structural identities and meanings within narrative structures.
