국문 초록
This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of dining etiquette in Korea and Vietnam among Vietnamese learners of Korean as a foreign language. The ultimate goal of Korean language education is to enhance learners’ ability to successfully communicate with native Korean speakers. In traditional foreign language education, the focus was placed on language itself, with an emphasis on linguistic competence. However, in recent years, the importance of culture has been increasingly emphasized alongside language. In fact, from an intercultural perspective, there are cases where cultural elements are considered more important than linguistic ones in communicative situations. If learners lack sufficient knowledge of the target language, they tend to interpret it using the unique standards and criteria of their native language. Similarly, without adequate cultural knowledge, they are prone to interpret the target culture subjectively based on the norms of their native culture, which can make it difficult to respond appropriately. Therefore, cultural education must inevitably accompany foreign language education. Based on this understanding, the present study examines the similarities and differences in between Korea and Vietnam with the aim of improving the intercultural communication competence of Vietnamese learners of Korean.
