노부모와 기혼자녀의 근거리 거주 일상 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 노부모와 중장년 기혼 자녀가 오랜 시간 근거리에 거주해 오면서 경험한 일상생활이 세대 간 관계에 대해 가지는 현상학적 의미를 탐색하는 데에 목적이 있다. 노인 단독 가구를 구성하고 있는 부모 세대 1명(65세 이상의 부 또는 모)과 이들로부터 도보 15분 이내 근거리에 거주하는 기혼 자녀 1명을 쌍표집하여 개별적으로 심층 면접을 실시하였고, 총 9쌍의자료를 기반으로 부모와 자녀 간의 상호 교류와 관련된 행동과 감정의 패턴, 변화, 인식 및 대응을 세대 간 공통점과 차이점에 주목하여 양자 분석을 수행하였다. 근거리 일상의 생활세계의 경험으로 들어가는 현상학적 연구 분석의 결과로써 189개의 의미 단위가 식별되었고, 이들을 37개의 하위 구성요소로 개념화한 후 최종적으로 7개의 구성요소로 범주화하였다. 근거리거주 세대 간 일상 경험에서 드러난 주된 현상들은 ‘독립적인 살림의 주체’, ‘효 규범의 실천에편리한 일상’, ‘교류와 공유에 편한 일상’, ‘기대와 요구가 많은 일상’, ‘불편한 차이가 드러나는일상’, ‘일상, 그 이상의 시간에 대한 희망’, 그리고 ‘생애주기에 따른 일상의 변화와 적응’이었고, 이들 7개의 구성요소는 ‘근거리 거주 일상의 맥락’, ‘전통적 가족주의 가치관의 추구’, ‘심리적 부담과 가족 갈등’, ‘함께 하는 생애과정’으로 그 본질적 의미를 구조화하여 이해할 수있었다. 이 본질적 의미구조는 근거리 거주 세대 간의 관계를 이해하는 데에 있어서 중요한맥락적 조건, 긍정적 인식, 도전과 어려움, 그리고 다가올 시간에 대한 생각을 드러낸다고 할수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 최근 한국 사회의 세대 간 거주 양식과 교류 및 돌봄에 대한 이해를 고양하는 한편, 세대 간 근거리 거주 일상에서 긍정적 상호작용을 촉진하는 조건과 갈등상황에 대한 탐색을 통해 가족 관계와 노년층 복지 개선을 위한 실용적 함의를 논하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the phenomenological meaning of the everyday lives experienced by older parents and their middle-aged married children who have lived in proximity, and how these experiences shaped intergenerational relationships. One parent from the older generation (aged 65 or older) and one married child residing within a 15-minute walking distance were paired for in-depth individual interviews. Based on data from nine dyads, a dyadic analysis was conducted to examine behavioral and emotional patterns, changes, perceptions, and responses related to intergenerational interactions, with attention to both similarities and differences between parents and children. Through phenomenological analysis of experiences in the lifeworld of proximity living, 189 meaning units were identified. These were conceptualized into 37 sub-components and ultimately categorized into seven components. The major phenomena emerging from the everyday experiences included: “independent household living,” “convenience in practicing the norm of filial duty,” “ease of interaction and sharing in daily life,” “everyday life with high expectations and demands,” “everyday life revealing uncomfortable differences,” “hope for time beyond the everyday,” and “changes and adaptation in everyday life according to the life course.” These seven components were further structured and understood through four essential meanings: “the context of everyday life in proximity,” “pursuit of traditional familism values,” “psychological burden and family conflict,” and “the shared life course.” This essential meaning structure reveals the contextual conditions, positive perceptions, challenges and difficulties, and reflections on the future that shape intergenerational relationships in the living arrangements. The findings of this study not only enhance the understanding of contemporary patterns of intergenerational co-residence, interaction, and caregiving in Korean society, but also provide practical implications for improving family relationships and the well-being of older adults by identifying conditions that foster positive intergenerational interactions as well as situations that generate conflict in the proximity living.
