국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 류성룡의 리더십의 특징을 소명 리더십이라는 관점에서 분석하는 것이다. 류성룡의 소명의식의 사상적 연원에 대해서 안으로는 동양 고전인 대학의 성의(誠意) 개념, 밖으로는 조선 성리학의 하늘에 대한 경외감을 강조하는 경천(敬天) 사상을 들 수 있다. 이것은 서구에서의 소명 개념이 내면에서 나오는 목소리(vocation)와 밖으로부터의 명령(Calling)으로 정의하고있는 것과 유사하다. 그리고 류성룡의 소명의식에 영향을 미친 시대적 요인으로서는 조선시대 4 대 사화와 당대의 기축옥사를 직접 체험한 것을 들 수 있다. 이런 시대적 분위기가 류성룡으로 하여금 자기를 초월하여 소명의식의 삶의 철학을 형성하는데도 영향을 미쳤을 것으로 본다. 소명 리더십을 분석하는 틀로서 소명-정체성-가치-신념-역량-행동-결과의 신경논리적 단계의 개념에 기반하여 소명의식의 내면적 측면과 겉으로 드러나는 행동과 결과의 측면에서 류성룡이 남긴 문헌을 기반으로 경험적으로분석하였다. 류성룡의 리더십을 소명 리더십이라는 개념으로 파악할 때 그의 대신(大臣) 으로서의 정체성, 가치관 및 신념, 소명을 실현하는 데 필요한 역량 및 능력 등내면 의식과 소명 실현을 위한 외부의 행동들이 일관성있게 정렬되는 것을 볼수 있다는 것이 이 논문의 발견이다. 이로써 소명 리더십의 개념으로 류성룡의 리더십을 분석하는 것은 류성룡의진면목을 드러내는데 매우 유용하다는 것이 밝혀졌다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of Ryu Seong-ryong’s Leadership in terms of vocation leadership. The ideological origins of his vocation consciousness goes back, internally, to the concept of 誠意 in the oriental classic 大學, and externally, to the worship of the heaven in the Chosun’s 性理學. This is equivalent to, internally, the concept of vocation and, externally, to the concept of calling in the Western literatures. Furthermore, the four times of scholar’s disaster and the Gichook Prison Disaster which he experienced in his times may have influenced in forming his lifestyle of vocation pursuit. A framework of the neurological levels, developed by Robert Dilts, is utilized to analyze the consciousness of vocation. The neurological levels include the levels of vocation- self identityvalue/beliefs- capabilities - behavior- environment/results. Empirical documents written by Ryu Seong-ryong himself were utilized to examine his internal consciousness of vocation. We found that Ryu Seong-ryong had sincere self-identity as top minister level government officer, values and belief system equivalent to the position, some excellent capabilities to implement his roles, and then he behaved to meet his vocations and calling given to him in the 7 years of war time hardships. In so doing, the conceptual framework of vocation leadership may prove to be useful in finding the real essence of Ryu Seong-ryong’ character leadership.
