직업계고 전문교과 교사의 전문성 개발과 발현에 관한 연구

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 직업계고 전문교과 교사들이 가르치는 일에 대한 전문성과 가르치고 있는 분야의 직업에 대한 실무적 전문성을 갖춰야 하는 이중 전문성 함양 상황에서 자신의 전문성을 어떻게 개발하고 발현하고 있는가를 심층적으로 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 전문교과 교사 15명을 대상으로 개별 면담을 실시한 후 수집된 질적 자료를 분석하였다. 면담 대상자는 크게 3개의 그룹으로 경력 5년 미만 초기 경력 교사, 산업체 경력 보유 후 입직한 교사, 경력 5년 이상의 중기 경력 교사 집단으로 나누어 표집하였다. 연구결과: 초기 경력 교사들은 교원양성과정에서 경험해보지 못한 실습 수업 지도 등에서 어려움을 겪고 있었으며, 이와 반대로 산업체 경력을 보유한 교사들은 실무 경험을 바탕으로 실습 수업 지도에 강점을 보였다. 중기 경력 교사들은 학교 교육 활동에 대한 노하우는 축적되었으나 여러 환경 변화(예: 학과 개편)에 의해 지속적인 전문성 개발이나 전문성 전환의 상황에 놓이기도 하였다. 결론: 전문교과 교사 양성과 전문성 개발은 보통교과와 다른 특수성을 반영하여 이루어질 필요가 있다. 또한 전문교과 교사들이 지속적으로 전문성 개발의 요구와 상황에 직면하고 있는 만큼 자신의 전문성 개발 과정을 점검하고 성찰할 수 있는 제도적·환경적 기반이 마련될 필요가 있음을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate, in depth, the ways in which vocational high school teachers develop and recognize their professionalism within the context of dual professionalism. Methods: To achieve the purpose of this study, data were collected and analyzed through individual interviews with fifteen Vocational Education teachers. The interviewees were divided into three groups: early-career teachers with less than five years of experience, teachers who entered the profession with industrial experience, and mid-career teachers with more than five years of experience. Results: The results of the study showed that early career teachers had difficulties in teaching practical classes that they had not experienced in teacher training programs, while teachers with industrial experience showed strengths in teaching practical classes based on their practical experience. Mid-career teachers had accumulated knowledge in school education activities, but were in a situation of continuous professional development or professional transition due to various environmental changes (e.g., department reorganization). Conclusion: It was identified that there is a need to systematize the training and continuous professional development of vocational teachers, such as providing opportunities for practical experience at industrial sites. In addition, it is necessary to establish a system that allows vocational teachers to systematically monitor and reflect on their own professional development.
