국문 초록

일반적으로 ‘캐릭터’는 소설이나 연극, 영화 등의 서사 속에 등장하는 인물의 통칭으로 작품 내용 속에서 드러나는 인물의 개성과 이미지를 이야기 한다. 문자 언어 속의 캐릭터는 독자들의 상상 속에서 존재하고, 영화나 드라마와 같이 시청각 서사 속의 캐릭터는 실존하는 인물로 현재화(顯在化된) 되거나 애니메이션 캐릭터와 같은 형태로 구체화 된다. 미나모토노 다메토모에 관한 선행연구의 대부분은 『호겐모노가타리』 속에서의 그의 인물 조형이며, 이 연구의 대부분은 영웅상으로서의 분석이다. 일본 중세 군기모노가타리의 영웅상의 중점은 그들의 가치관이나 행동과 무관하다. 그들을 영웅으로 부르는 것은 이타적이거나 대의를 위해서 희생을 했거나 등의 행동에서 비롯되거나, 가치관, 사고방식이 중요한 것이 아니다. 단지 그들이 그 혼란기를 살아 낸 인물이라는 점에서 비롯된다. 현대에 이 다메토모를 소재로 가지고 온다면, ‘영웅’이라는 타이틀은 가지고 올 수는 있지만, 본질적인 캐릭터는 바뀔 수밖에 없다. 존재에 의의를 두고 패배한 낭만적 영웅이라고 불릴 수 있었던 것은 헤이안 말이라는 특수한 시대적 배경이었기에 가능했던 것이다. 21세기의 애니메이션 속으로 들어오면서 다메토모가 가지고 있는 영웅의 캐릭터는 보편적인 가치관을 지닌 형태로 새롭게 단장하여 등장한다. ‘다메토모가 규슈나 이즈에서 전란을 많이 치루었다.’라는 키워드는 폭정과 약탈을 거듭하면서 지배자가 된 것이 아니라 반대로 악덕 관리를 무찌르고 백성을 구하는 민중을 위하고 사람을 위하는 ‘인간애’가 넘치는 인물로 등장한다. 소설 속의 인물이 영상 매체 속에서 캐릭터로서 입체적으로 움직이기 위해서는 기존의 원작에서 서술되지 않았거나, 생략된 부분들에 대해서 덧붙여지는 부분들이 생겨난다. 근원이 되는 인물 조형에서 추가와 삭제의 과정을 거치고, 배경적 요소나 주변 인물들까지 적절하게 수정하면서 새롭게 태어난다.

영문 초록

In general, ‘character’ is a term to denote a figure in the narrative of novels, plays, films, and others and it represents the personality and image of the figure revealed in the narrative. A character presented in written language solely exists in a reader’s imagination while a character in audiovisual narratives such as films and TV dramas are actualized via real people or embodied via animation characters and others. Most of the previous studies on Minamotono Tametomo have been made on his character presented in ‘Hogenmonogatari’ and analyzed his character under the frame of a hero. The focus of heroic images in Gunmonogatari in the Middles Ages of Japan is irrelevant with values or actions of one being. The people known to be heroes of that time had not gained such fame due to their actions such as acts of altruism or sacrifice for a greater cause, nor their values or ways of thinking: Their fame simply comes from the fact that they are the people who had made through that period of turmoil. If ‘Tametomo’ is depicted in modern times, it would be possible to reflect his heroic image, but the essence of his character is subject to change. The meaning of his existence as ‘a hero who defeated, but still romantic’ is only possible in the special historical background, of the end of the Heian period. When Tametomo’s heroic character was brought into animations of the 21stcentury, his character took a new form with universal values. The keyword that ‘Tametomo suffered from many wars and battles in Kyushu and Izu’ was newly translated to a heroic figure full of ‘humanity’ who fought for people and defeated evil officials to save them rather than a figure who became a ruler through repeated tyranny and plunder. To translate a figure presented in written language into an audiovisual character having actual moves, it requires additional information or contents that are not described in the original story. Through a process of addition and deletion from the original character of a figure and modification of backgrounds and surrounding characters, the figure become revised and reborn
