국문 초록

This study examines how the spatial strategies of large-scale spectator facilities vary depending on their urban locational context. Focusing on two Major League Baseball stadiums in the United States, Target Field in Minneapolis (urban core) and Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. (urban transition zone), the research analyzes three key dimensions: planning and implementation structure, transportation connectivity, and functional-spatial integration. The findings reveal that urban-core facilities, such as Target Field, are typically embedded within the existing urban fabric and designed to reinforce the continuity of commercial, transit, and pedestrian networks. In contrast, facilities in transitional-edge locations, like Nationals Park, are planned as catalysts for spatial expansion, emphasizing flexible land use, anchor-based development, and new functional clustering along waterfront redevelopment corridors. Rather than treating location merely as a background condition, this study conceptualizes it as a structural variable that determines the composition and impact of spatial strategies. By highlighting the differences in planning logic and urban outcomes associated with each location type, the study provides both theoretical insight and practical implications for context-sensitive urban development. The findings suggest that the spatial role of spectator facilities must be calibrated to the structural conditions of their location, particularly in relation to surrounding connectivity and land use configuration.
