국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학교 5, 6학년 과학 교과서와 중학교 과학 교과서에 제시된 그래프에서 두 변수의 변화 관계를 표현하고 해석한 방식을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 독립변수의 종류, 독립변수에 대한 표현(명확성, 연속·이산), 두 변수의 변화 관계를 표현하는 방식을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 독립변수가 시간일 때 명확하지 않게 표현하는 경우가 많았으며, 연속 변수도 이산 변수로 표현되기도 하였다. 또한, 수학 교과뿐만 아니라 타 교과 학습에서 공변 관계를 표현하는 방식에 대한 주의가 필요하며, 교육과 정 간의 연계성이 중요함을 시사점으로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the relationship between two changing variables is represented and interpreted in graphs presented in science textbooks for grades 5-6 and middle school. To achieve this, the study examined the types of independent variables, the representation of independent variables (in terms of clarity and whether they are continuous or discrete), and the ways in which the relationships between the two variables are depicted. The results showed that when time was used as the independent variable, it was often represented ambiguously, and continuous variables were sometimes expressed as discrete variables. These findings suggest that attention is needed not only in mathematics but also in other subject areas to how covarying relationships are represented, and they highlight the importance of coherence across the curriculum.
