초고본 『일기』와 『난중일기』의 텍스트성 연구

국문 초록

본고는 이순신의 초고본 『일기(日記)』와 『이충무공전서(李忠武公全書)』에 수재(收載)된 『난중일기』의 텍스트성 구명(究明)을 목적으로 하였다. 초고본 『일기』는 임진왜란이란 특수한 역사적 상황 속에서 이루어진 기록물이며, 동시에 개인적 차원의 기록이다. 그렇기에 초고본 『일기』는 일기문의 일반적 특징이 잘 드러난다. 시간의 흐름에 따라 사건과 주관적 감정을 나열적으로 서술하였다. 그것들은 역사적으로 의미 있는 특별한 사건들만은 아니며, 정제되지 않은 현장감 있는 문장으로 서술되었다. 또한 공무(公務)와 사소하고 반복적인 개인적 일상이 혼재한다. 초고본 『일기』에는 일기문의 주요 특징인 임시성과 일상성, 자율성이라는 지표적 특징이 여실히 드러난다. 자기 서사와 내면의 표현이 존재하며 주변의 사건에 대한 주관적 판단이 빈번하게 보인다. 이에 반해 『난중일기』는 이순신을 충효를 겸전한 전범적 인물상으로 전경화(前景化)함으로써, 그것이 역사와 역사적 인물을 이해하기 위한 자료가 되도록 의도했다. 그러다 보니 문장의 현장성에 기반한 비체계성은 제거되고 간결하면서도 논리적 체계를 지니도록 다듬어졌다. 『난중일기』에는 임진년의 전쟁에서 왜적의 침탈을 물리치고 중화적 질서를 지켜낸 충신의 전범(典範)을 전경화한 텍스트로의 변모 양상이 드러난다. 이런 점에서 『난중일기』는 초고본 『일기』를 공적 기록물로 전환·표현하려는 의도에 기반하여 이루어진 텍스트라 할 수 있다. 충효라는 중세적 절대 가치를 선양하는 목적으로 편찬된 역사 기록물이라는 텍스트적 특징을 지녔다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the textuality of Yi Sun-sin’s Draft Diary (Ilgi, 日記) and the War Diary of Admiral Yi Sun-sin (Nanjung Ilgi, 亂中日記) as included in the Collected Works of Admiral Yi Chungmugong(李忠武公全書). The Draft Diary is a record composed during the unique historical circumstances of the Imjin War(壬辰倭亂), and at the same time, it is a deeply personal document. As such, the first edition of the Diary exhibits many of the general characteristics typical of diary writing. Events and subjective emotions are narrated in a sequential manner according to the flow of time. These entries are not composed solely of historically significant or extraordinary events, but are written in unrefined, vivid prose that conveys a strong sense of immediacy. Public duties are interwoven with trivial and repetitive details of private daily life. The Draft Diary clearly reveals key textual characteristics of diary writing, such as temporariness, everydayness, and autonomy. In it, self-narration and inner expression appear frequently, and Yi Sun-sin’s subjective judgments on surrounding events are often revealed. In contrast, the Nanjung Ilgi presents Yi Sun-sin as an exemplary historical figure embodying loyalty and filial piety, thereby serving as a source for understanding history and historical actors. Consequently, the unsystematic and situational prose of the original was removed, and the text was refined into a concise and logically structured form. The Nanjung Ilgi thus reveals a transformation into a text that foregrounds the image of a loyal retainer who defended against the Japanese invasion during the war of 1592 and preserved the Sinocentric order. In this sense, the Nanjung Ilgi can be seen as a text produced with the intention of converting the Draft Diary into an official historical record. It embodies the textual character of a historical document compiled to extol the medieval absolute virtues of loyalty and filial piety.
