원주이씨 해남문중의 『용하도록』 속 문중사 정보

국문 초록

이 글에서는 원주이씨 해남문중 소장의 『용하도록』을 대상으로 문중사 관련 내용을 골라 정리·분석ㆍ평가하였다. 일제강점기 이전의 『용하도록』에는 산지기 등 문중 고용인에게 사래 전답을 지급했다는 기록은 없다. 한국사데이터베이스(https://db.history.go.kr) 등 각종 웹사이트에서 ‘私內〔사래〕’를 검색해도 조선시대에 사래로 전답을 제공했다는 기사는 확인되지 않는다. 이에 조선시대에는 문중 고용인에게 사래 전답을 지급하지 않았다고 볼 수 있다. 지출에서 80% 이상을 차지하는 항목은 제향과 문회에 따른 제수비와 식사비였다. 이로써 원주이씨 해남문중의 문중계는 오로지 祭享을 위한 목적으로 설립·운영되었음을 알 수 있다. 문중 전답의 소작은 원주이씨 문중원과 고용인(山지기, 齋지기, 庫지기)에게만 주어졌다. 또 가뭄 등으로 재난을 당했을 때, 소작료를 면제 또는 감액해 주었다. 이에 문중계의 또 다른 목적은 문중원의 이익에 있었음을 알 수 있다. 문중계의 운영에서 문중 건물의 신축과 개수 등과 같은 비일상적 거금이 필요한 때에는 각 지파별 재정 분담, 인력 차출 등으로 지출을 최소화하였다. 또 선산의 소나무와 대나무를 매각하여 보충하기도 하였다. 한편, 공사는 흉년이 든 해는 피하여 실시하였다. 문중 고용인인 산지기·재지기·고지기 등에 대해서는 소작료가 면제된 사래 전답이 지급되었다. 특히 전업인 산지기에게는 가옥과 가재도구를 제공하였고, 定例에 따라 致賀金과 柴醬費를 주었다. 또 그에게는 경조사에 따른 부조금도 지급하였다. 창씨개명을 강요받자, 문중의 정체성을 유지하기 위하여 도문중의 사당 이름인 英山院의 이름을 따서 ‘英山’으로 창씨할 것을 권유하였다. 무엇보다도 창씨 이후에도 『용하도록』에서는 기존의 李氏를 그대로 사용하였다. 한편, 창씨를 하더라도 근본을 망각하지 말자는 결의를 다지기도 했다.

영문 초록

『Yonghadorok (用下都錄)』 began to be recorded in 1891, but there is no record of the rent-free land paid for wages〔‘Sarai’-farmland〕 to the mountain keepers and other employees until 1908. Even if you search for '私內(‘Sarai’)' on various websites such as the Korean History Database (https://db.history.go.kr), you will not find any articles that provided the answer in ‘Sarai’-farmland during the Joseon Dynasty. Therefore, it can be said that during the Joseon Dynasty, the employees of clan were not paid the ‘Sarai’-farmland. More than 80 percent of the expenditures were for the purchase of goods and meals for sacrifices and clan meetings. Through this, a clan funds was operated solely for the purpose of sacrifice. Thus It does not seek to increase its income in the same way as usury. The tenant farmers were confined to the same clan and his employees (mountain keepers etc.). In addition, when they were cut due to drought, they waived or reduced the rent of the crop. From this, it can be seen that the original purpose of clan fund was for the benefit of clansman. When extraordinary sums of money were needed, such as the construction and renovation of clan-owned buildings, each sub-clan was required to pay its own contribution. In addition, pine and bamboo from clan-owned mountains were sold to make up for it. On the other hand, the work was carried out in favor of a flat or good harvest year, avoiding a famine year. Employees were provided with arable land exempt from tenant fees. In particular, full-time mountain keepers were provided with houses and household goods, and bonuses were given according to custom. He was also given a congratulatory allowance. When the colonial government had to name a new family name, In order to maintain the identity of the clan, it was recommended that the clan be renamed after the name of the clan shrine. However, in the 『Yonghadorok (用下都錄)』, the existing family names were retained.
