국문 초록

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the core concepts of nursing education by applying the metaparadigm of nursing and Roy’s Adaptation Model to the animated film Despicable Me , focusing on the interactions within a nontraditional adoptive family. Methods: The film was examined through a qualitative content analysis framework based on the four components of the nursing metaparadigm (person, environment, health, and nursing) and Roy’s four adaptive modes (physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence). Characters’ emotional transitions and behavioral changes were interpreted from a nursing perspective. Results: The study found that the adoptive family in the film represents a dynamic site of psychological and emotional adaptation. The caregiver Gru evolves from an emotionally detached individual into a nurturing figure, and the three adopted children recover from developmental trauma through emotional bonding and stable support. These changes are congruent with key nursing principles such as emotional support, developmental care, and family-centered nursing. Conclusion: The findings suggest that films like Despicable Me provide valuable educational resources that enhance nursing students’ empathy, critical thinking, and understanding of holistic and contextualized care. Nursing curricula should actively incorporate film-based learning to help students apply theoretical knowledge to real-life psychosocial and family dynamics.
