국문 초록

본 연구는 고독사를 단지 개인의 말로가 아닌 사회적 관계의 해체와 경제적 취약성, 제도적 방기의 복합적 결과로 인식하고 이를 구조적으로 분석하고자 한다. 특히 고독사의 핵심 요인을 ‘사회적 연결성’과 ‘경제적 안정성’이라는 두 축으로 구분하여 2×2 매트릭스 분석틀을 제시하고, 이에 따라 고독사 위험군을 네 가지 유형(사회적 자립형, 정서적 고립형, 구조적 취약형, 고위험 배제형)으로 유형화하였다. 각 유형별로 상이한 위험양상과 정책 사각지대를 도출하고, 이에 따른 맞춤형 정책 개입 전략을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 사회적 자본 이론과 구조적 폭력 이론을 이론적 기반으로 삼아 고독사의 본질을 분석하며, 고독사를 단지 복지의 문제를 넘어 정의와 돌봄의 윤리로 접근해야 함을 주장한다. 특히 ‘정서적 고립형’과 ‘구조적 취약형’은 정책적 주목이 필요한 사각지대로 확인되었으며, 고위험군에 대해서는 통합적 돌봄 체계와 공공 개입의 필요성이 강조된다. 본 연구는 고독사 예방을 위한 실천적·정책적 대안 제시에 기여함으로써 공동체적 삶의 회복과 생명 존중 사회 구현에 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze ‘lonely death’ not merely as the tragic end of an individual life, but as the complex result of the collapse of social relationships, economic vulnerability, and institutional neglect. Using two critical dimensions, social connectedness and economic stability, the research develops a 2×2 social structure matrix to categorize populations at risk of lonely death into four types: social self-reliance, emotional isolation, structural vulnerability, and high-risk exclusion. For each type, the study examines distinct patterns of risk and areas where current policies fail to adequately address emerging needs, proposing tailored policy intervention strategies accordingly. Grounded in the theories of social capital and structural violence, this research investigates the nature of lonely deaths and argues that they should be addressed not only as a matter of social welfare, but also through the lens of justice and the ethics of care. In particular, the types characterized by emotional isolation and structural vulnerability are identified as blind spots in policy implementation that demand urgent attention. For high-risk groups, the study highlights the need for an integrated care system and proactive public intervention.
