국문 초록

니케아 신경(The Nicene Creed)은 주후 325년 5월에 열린 첫 보편 공의회인 니케아 공의회에서 고백 되었다. 이 신경은 주후 381년 콘스탄티노플 공의회를 거쳐 니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경(The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed)으로 확장된 이후 동서방 교회가 모두 고백하는 유일한 보편 신경이 되었다. 개혁주의 교회도 니케아신경을 직접 언급하는 ‘벨직 신앙고백서’(Confessio Belgica, 1561) 제9조와 니케아신경의 중요한 표현을 사용하고 있는 ‘웨스트민스터 신앙고백서’(the Westminster Confession of Faith, 1647) 2장 3항을 통해서 니케아 신경의 가치를 인정한다. 그러나, 니케아 신경을 인지명제적 교리로서 수용한다고 하여, 그것이 니케아 신경을 ‘우리의’ 신경으로 고백할 수 있게 되는 것은 아니다. ‘나는/우리는 믿습니다’(‘I/we believe’)의 형식을 취하는 신경은 인격적 관여(personal engagement), 즉 고백자와 그 고백의 대상이신 삼위일체 하나님 간의 인격적 관계성(a personal relationship) 을 만든다. 그렇다면 신경을 형성하고, 또한 신경이 형성시키는 인격적 관여 혹은 인격적 관계성은 무엇인가? 본 논문은 신경의 형성과 전수의 신학적 방법론을 살펴봄으로써 이 질문에 답하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본고는 성경, 믿음의 준칙(regula fidei), 정화와 상승(ἀναγωγή), 그리고 탐구(θεωρία) 간의 관계성을 통해 신경을 형성하고 전수시킨 신학적 방법론을 고찰한다. 이로써 본고는 모든 피조물을 간극의 한계 안에 두셨지만 스스로 모든 간극을 초월해 계신 무한하신 하나님께로 초월을 추구하는 관여와 관계성이 신경을 형성하고 또 신경이 형성시키는 인격적 관여임을 밝힌다. 기도는 이 관계성의 실현이다.

영문 초록

The Nicene Creed was confessed at the Council of Nicaea, in May 325 AD. It was expanded into the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD and remains the only ecumenical creed confessed by both Eastern and Western Churches. The Reformed Churches also recognize the value of the Nicene Creed in Article 9 of Confessio Belgica (1561), and in Article 2, Section 3 of the Westminster Confession of Faith (1647). However, accepting the Nicene Creed as a cognitive propositional doctrine does not make it possible to confess it as ‘our’ creed. A creed that takes the form of ‘I/we believe’ creates a personal engagement, a personal or individual relationship between a confessor and the Triune God. What, then, is the personal engagement or relationship that formed the creed and that the creed has been forming? This paper seeks to answer this question by examining the theological methodology of forming and transmitting the creed. The methodology is examined by defining the relationship between the Bible, the Rule of Faith(regula fidei), purification, anagoge(ἀναγωγή), and theoria(θεωρία). In doing so, this paper reveals that the personal engagement of the creed is an engagement and relationship that seeks transcendence to the infinite God who placed His creation within the limits of distances but is himself beyond all of them. Prayer is an actualization of this relationship.
