Ecological discourse analysis serves as a vital approach for constructing national images and competing for international discourse power. Guided by the international ecological philosophy of “diversity and harmony, interaction and symbiosis” and grounded in the transitivity system of Systemic Functional Linguistics, this study proposes an analytical framework for examining China’s image from an ecological perspective. Using news reports from mainstream Chinese and American media on China’s carbon neutrality goals as the corpus, the study compares the semantic features and discourse strategies employed by the two sides. The findings reveal that Chinese media predominantly employ beneficial discourse to construct a positive image of China as a global leader in green transition and a promoter of ecological civilization. In contrast, American media tend to emphasize destructive discourse, highlighting China's perceived shortcomings in assuming global climate responsibilities. This divergence not only reflects differing media stances in discourse practices but also reveals the complex dynamics of Sino-US competition in international ecological discourse. The study offers a concrete path for ecological discourse analysis and provides theoretical insights and linguistic resources for cross-cultural ecological discourse research, thereby contributing to both the self-construction and external shaping of China's national image.
영문 초록
生态话语分析是构建国家形象与争夺国际话语权的重要路径。本研究以“多元和谐,交互共生”的国际生态哲学观为指导,结合系统功能语言学中的及物性系统,构建了生态视域下的中国形象分析框架。基于中美主流媒体对中国碳中和目标的报道,分析了两国媒体在语义特征和话语策略上的异同。研究发现,中方媒体主要通过有益性话语构建中国作为全球绿色转型领导者和生态文明推动者的积极形象;而美方媒体则倾向于强调破坏性话语,突出中国在应对全球气候责任方面的不足。这种差异不仅反映了两国媒体在话语实践中的立场差异,也揭示了中美在国际生态话语权竞争中的复杂关系。本文探索了生态话语分析的具体路径,为跨文化生态话语研究提供了新的理论视角和语言资源支持,助力提升中国形象的自塑与他塑能力。
