This thesis aims to study the visual representation and cultural dissemination of Chinese ancient literary works when adapted into fantasy films. By deeply analyzing the visual elements such as visual effects, scene layout, character creation, and visual symbols in the adapted works, this paper explains how the adapted works use modern technological means to restore the fantasy elements in the original works and create visual spectacles to enhance the story’s emotional impact and the audiences immersive experience. Additionally, this paper explores the functions and impact of the adapted works in the field of cultural dissemination from the perspectives of cultural inheritance and reproduction, cultural innovation and integration, and cross-cultural dissemination and audience reception. By analyzing the recent hit film Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms and the 3A game Black Myth: Wukong which have gained worldwide attention, this paper further confirms the important value of Chinese fantasy works adapted into films in connecting ancient culture with modern audiences and driving cultural inheritance and innovation. The research findings show that the adaptation of Chinese ancient literary works into fantasy films not only provides audiences with visual pleasure, but also injects new vitality into the inheritance and development of Chinese culture.
