국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 경찰정당성에 대한 지역주민들의 인식에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 요인들을 분석하는데 있었다. 경찰정당성은 시민의 경찰협조 및 법규범 준수행동에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 중요한 요인이므로 연구의 필요성이 존재한다. 이에 연구의 수행을 위해 기존 문헌의 검토를 통해 경찰정당성의 개념과 영향요인에 대하여 논의하였다. 통계적 분석을 위해 대구시 주민을 대상으로 실시한 설문자료를 이용하였다. 통계분석 결과 이론적 모델들 중 지역맥락모델이 가장 일관되게 지지를 받는 결과를 보여준 반면 다른 모델들은 부분적인 지지를 받는 것으로 나타났다. 개인적 특성 중에서 연령은 경찰정당성에 대한 주민들의 인식을 유의미하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났으나 다른 인구학적 특성 변인들(성별, 교육정도, 주택소유여부, 거주기간)은 아무런 영향이 없었다. 삶의 질 관련 상황모델의 결과는 기존 연구결과와는 달리 무질서가 경찰정당성과 관련이 없는 반면 직접적인 재산 및 폭력범죄피해 경험과 범죄피해 가능성에 대한 인식은 경찰정당성에 부정적인 영향을 주었다. 마지막으로 지역사회 유대와 애착이 강하다고 인식하는 주민들은 경찰정당성을 긍정적으로 인식함으로써 지역사회의 결집력의 중요성을 보여주었다.

영문 초록

This primacy purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing the residents' perception of police legitimacy. Previous studies on public opinion in the police have not taken an attention on the issue of police legitimacy. The data collected from 710 respondents in Dea-gu City were used in the statistical analyses. According to the results, community context model was the best predict model among theoretical models explaining the effects of police legitimacy. Among demographical characteristics, age showed a positive significant effect on police legitimacy while other demographic variables, including gender, education, home-ownership, length of living fail to show significant effects. Unlike previous research findings, disorder as a main variable in the situational model related to quality of life failed to show direct impacts on police legitimacy. However, property and violent victimization experience and the risk of victimization successfully showed negative significant effects on police legitimacy. Finally, community cohesion and attachment have an impact to increase police legitimacy of residents so that community solidarity is one of the most important predictor to understand police legitimacy.
