This study examines the diverse motivational factors influencing Korean university students’ decision to prepare for the A1 German certification test, with the broader goal of enhancing their language learning experience. A survey was conducted in 2023 among 72 undergraduate students, analyzing their motivations through ten structured questions. The results reveal that job prospects (65%) emerged as the most significant driving force, followed by a desire to travel to German-speaking countries (45%) and personal interest (30%). Additionally, encouragement from family and friends was identified as an influential factor. The findings highlight the pivotal role of motivation in shaping positive attitudes toward language learning, which, in turn, fosters sustained engagement and proficiency development. In particular, integrating career-oriented training and cultural immersion experiences into language programs can create meaningful connections between students’ learning and real-world applications. Such an approach can enhance motivation, improve German language skills, and deepen cultural understanding, ultimately leading to greater long-term success in language acquisition.
