고희(高曦, 1560∼1615) 초상의 전승과 변용: 영성군영당 봉안 20세기 이모본의 양식과 의의

국문 초록

본 연구는 임진왜란 시기 호성공신으로 책훈된 고희(高曦, 1560–1615)의 초상화 가운데, 전북 부안군 효충사 영성군영당에 봉안된 이모본을 중심으로 그 양식적 특징과 회화사적 의미를 고찰한 것이다. 해당 초상은 보물로 지정된 유물자료관 소장본과의 비교를 통해 20세기 초에 제작된 후대 이모본으로규명되며, 보물 지정본을 충실히 모사하여 제작된 근대기의 초상화로 평가된다. 인물의 자세, 복식, 공수(拱手) 형식 등은 보물 지정본의 구도를 따르고 있으나, 흉배 도상, 화문석 바닥 표현, 장황 및 유소양식 등에서는 근대적 요소가 뚜렷이 반영되어 있다. 특히 불교 진영과의 유사성 및 간략화된 족자 형식은 당시 지역 화사 또는 화승의 관여 가능성을 시사한다. 영당본과 보물 지정본은 모두 후대 이모본이지만, 제작 시기와 양식적 성격에서 차이를 보이며, 영당본은 지역 문중의 현창 의식과 봉안 실천을입증하는 중요한 시각자료로서 근대기 전북 지역 회화사 연구에 기여할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the stylistic characteristics and art historical significance of a copied portrait of Go Hui (1560–1615), a meritorious subject of the Imjin War, enshrined at the Yeongseonggun Portrait Hall in Hyochungsa Shrine, Buan, North Jeolla Province. Through comparison with the designated Treasure portrait held in the Hyochungsa Museum Collection, the Yeongdang version is identified as a later reproduction from the early 20th century. This portrait closely imitates the Treasure version, reflecting efforts to reproduce its compositional structure and iconography. While the posture, attire, and format follow the earlier example, modern elements such as the tiger insignia, floral mat flooring, and simplified scroll mounting with tassels reveal stylistic shifts characteristic of the modern period. Its resemblance to Buddhist portraits and use of abbreviated hanging scroll formats suggest possible involvement of regional painters or monk-artists. Although both extant versions are copies, the Yeongdang painting reflects a later phase of production and offers valuable insight into local commemorative practices and the transformation of ancestral portraiture in modern North Jeolla.
