국문 초록

이장식 교수는 한국사를 전문적으로 연구한 학자는 아니지만 ｢기독교 사상｣을 중심으로 한국교회와 사회에 대해서 많은 글을 썼고, 이것은 단행본의 형태로 출판되었다. 필자는 본 논문에서 세 가지 주제를 중심으로 그의 생각을 정리하였다. 첫째는 에큐메니칼 운동이다. 이장식 교수는 기장의 목사답게 에큐메니칼 진영의 신학을 충실하게 반영하고 있다. 하지만 그는 진보적인 연합운동이 대중들과 한국교회의 지지를 받지 못하고 있다는 점에서 안타깝게 생각한다. 둘째는 서구 근대화와 기독교의 토착화문제이다. 이장식은 미국에서 공부하였지만 미국식 민주주의의 이식에 대해서 회의적이며, 한국의 군사독재와 공산주의의 독재를 근본적으로 동일한 것으로 생각한다. 그러나 그는 민중신학에 대해서는 회의적이다. 셋째는 한국교회와 사회에 대한 그의 인식문제이다. 그는 한국교회와 사회를 양극화하고 있다고 보며, 이런 극단을 배제하고 이것을 창조적으로 조화시키려고 한다. 하지만 이것이 무엇인지 구체적으로는 언급하고 있지 않다.

영문 초록

Professor Chang Sik Lee is not only a scholar who specialized in Korean church history, but he has also written a lot about Korean churches and society in Christian Thought. It was published in the form of a book. In this paper, I summarized his thoughts on three themes. The first is ecumenical movement. Prof. Chang Sik Lee faithfully reflects the theology of the ecumenical camp as a pastor of the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea. However, he regrets that the progressive ecumenical movement is not supported by the public and the Korean church. The second is the problem of western modernization and indigenization of Christianity. Although Prof. Lee studied in the United States, he is skeptical about the transplantation of American democracy and considers the military dictatorship of Korea and the dictatorship of communism to be essentially the same. However, he is skeptical about so-called “people theology.” The third is his perception of the Korean church and society. He believes that the Korean church and society are polarizing and he wants to exclude this extreme and creatively harmonize it. Nonetheless, he does not specifically mention what this is.
