One-Health marine ecosystems are related to humans and animals. In addition, they serve as reservoirs of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes. However, little is known about the distribution and characteristics of marine-derived bacteria in response to the transmitted factors. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence and characteristics of Gram-negative bacteria isolated from marine-derived resources that can be transmitted to humans and companion animals. A total of 41 marine-derived resources were collected from 15 regions of nearby oceans in South Korea. Bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing were performed by 16S rRNA PCR and sequencing method and disk diffusion method, respectively. The pAmpC genes (CMY-1, CMY-2, DHA, ACC, FOX, and MIR/ACT) were identified through PCR and sequencing. A total of 41 non-duplicated Gram-negative bacteria, comprising 16 different species, were identified. Some isolates showed resistant patterns to ampicillin, amoxicillin, cefoxitin, streptomycin, and ciprofloxacin. 17 isolates carried pAmpC (ACT-6, ACT-15, ACT-20, and MIR-3) in 28 cefoxitin non-susceptible isolates. Our results prescribed that the distribution of marine-derived Gram-negative bacteria and identified the pAmpC producing marine-derived Gram-negative bacteria in South Korea. In this regard, our findings suggest the possibility of transmitting antimicrobial resistance to humans and animals regarding One-Health perspective.
