조형된 악녀상 재검토 - 『겐지 모노가타리(源氏物語)』 고키덴 뇨고(弘徽殿女御)를 중심으로

국문 초록

In The Tale of Genji, which features the protagonist Hikaru Genji and several other figures, the notorious villainess is the Kōkiden Consort. She was envious of the Kiritsubo Consort, the mother of Genji, and even resented Hikaru Genji, fearing that he might hinder the future of her son, the Suzaku Emperor. Still, her apparent villainous behavior is driven by her maternal instinct and her desire for the prosperity of her family lineage. This shows that, though she is described as the villainess to complete the theme of the story, her behavior is not utterly different from the emotions of envy and anger that people normally have. Also, to shape the image of the Kōkiden Consort, the author, though influenced by the Chinese The Annals of Empress Lü, removed elements of cruelty and related things that would not be compatible with the elegant noble culture. I reveal that the author constructs a world of miyabi ‘elegance’, an aesthetic sensibility of the Heian period, in the stories. Based on these findings, I claim that an attempt to study classical Japanese literature from a new perspective while maintaining the fundamentals of the narrative world is necessary for the further development of research on classical Japanese literature.

영문 초록

光源氏を主人公とし、様々な人物の様子が描かれている『源氏物語』の中 で、悪役といえば、誰もが弘徽殿女御を挙げると思われる。源氏の生母である桐壺更衣を妬み、また自分の息子である朱雀帝の将来を妨害するかも知れないと思い、光源氏までも憎んだ彼女であったが、その行動のもとには母性と家門の繁栄を願う心情によったものであること証明できた。物語の主題の完成のため、弘徽殿女御は物語最大の悪人として造型されているが、彼女が取った行動というのも、一般の人が普通に持っている嫉妬や怒りの感情ともさほど違いがないことも判明された。 また弘徽殿女御を造型するにあたり、中国の「呂后本紀」の影響を受けて いながらも、優雅な貴族文化と合わないと思われる残酷さなどは排除し、平安時代の美意識である「みやび」の世界を物語の中で構築していることも発見できた。 以上のことから、本稿のように物語世界の根本を守りながらも、新たな視点からの研究を試みることは日本古典文学研究のさらなる発展のために必要なものではないかと思われる。
