국문 초록
The purpose of this study is to examine what language attitudes native Korean speakers have toward foreign-accented speech. A survey was conducted to assess perceptions of foreignness, linguistic superiority, social preference, and social competence. A total of 110 native Korean speakers participated in this survey. As a result, native Korean speakers evaluated the utterances of native Korean speakers and Uzbek learners more positively, while the utterances of Vietnamese and Mongolian learners were rated more negatively. This negative evaluation was particularly highlighted in social preference, with Vietnamese learners receiving the lowest acceptability ratings in public situations. This study is significant in that it provides an analysis of native Korean speakers’ language attitudes using actual voice data. However, the fact that substantial differences according to the respondent variables did not appear significantly suggest that foreign accent can serve as an important criterion in socio-cultural contexts. Moreover, changes in Korean society have not yet led to a shift in the language attitudes of native Korean speakers.
