국문 초록
This article explores the connection between vulnerability and the concept of being as a void. To view the vulnerable as agents of change, it examines the invisibility of the vulnerable in Push through the lens of Badiou’s notion of the void. The key idea is this: just as Badiou’s void manifests at the margins, the vulnerable—those who are pushed away, neglected, excluded, and discriminated against—highlight society’s need for change. The novel’s protagonist, Precious, struggles with multiple forms of oppression, including racial discrimination, family abuse, illiteracy, appearance-based stigma, incest, and violence. However, from her position on the margins of society, she emerges from invisibility. This novel does not simply evoke compassion for Precious; rather, it transforms the edge of society into a space of resistance and struggle. Therefore, this novel offers the possibility that the vulnerable in a society can be considered Badiou’s void and, thereby, act as active agents for change.
