국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 대학의 국가장학금 의존도에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 고등교육 재정의 안정성을 증진하는 방안을 도출하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법 이를 위하여 사립대학 165개교를 대상으로 2023년도 대학알리미 자료를 활용하여 분석을 수행하였다. 다중회귀분석을 통해 국가장학금 의존도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 결과 소규모·비수도권 대학, 등록금 의존도가 높은 대학일수록 국가장학금 의존도가 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 반면, 외부 수입(기부금, 연구비 등)이 많은 대학과 재학생 충원율이 높은 대학은 국가장학금 의존도가 낮았다. 또한, 학령인구 증가율 및 지역 경제력이 높은 지역일수록 국가장학금 의존도가 낮았다. 결론 국가장학금 제도는 학생들의 학비 부담을 완화하는 데 효과적일 수 있으나, 소규모 대학이나 비수도권 대학에 대한 재정적 의존도가 높아 이를 위한 정책이 필요하다. 또한 학령인구 감소 지역의 대학에 대한 지원 정책이 요구되었다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to analyze the factors influencing universities' dependence on national scholarships and derive measures to enhance the financial stability of higher education. Methods The analysis was conducted using data from 165 private universities in 2023, based on the academyinfo dataset. Multiple regression analysis was employed to identify the factors influencing dependence on national scholarships. Results Small and non-metropolitan universities, as well as those with a high reliance on tuition revenue, tended to have a higher dependence on national scholarships. In contrast, universities with greater external funding (such as donations and research grants) and higher student enrollment rates exhibited lower reliance on national scholarships. Additionally, regions with higher growth in the school-age population and stronger economic conditions were associated with lower national scholarship dependency. Conclusions While the national scholarship program effectively reduces students' tuition burdens, smaller universities and those located in non-metropolitan areas exhibit a higher dependence on such funding, highlighting the need for targeted policies. Additionally, support measures are required for universities in regions experiencing a decline in the school-age population.
