국문 초록

이 논문은 전시공간을 넘어 기억을 보존하고 사회 문화적 정체성을 형성하며 과거를 통해 현재와 미래를 연결하는 기념관의 의미를 되짚어 보는데 의의가 있다. 본 연구는 지역사회와 협업하는 선진적 형태의 해외 기념관은 어떻게 구분되고 특징은 무엇인지 알아본 뒤 미래지향적인 한국 기념관의 발전 방향을 제시하는 기초적 연구이다. 해외 기념관은 지역사회와 협업하며 기능의 확장은 물론 성공적이고 진취적인 행동주의적인 면모를 드러내고 있었다. 해외 사례를 살펴본 결과 한국 기념관들의 가장 기본적 기능인 전시, 교육, 소장품 수집의 방향은 지역사회와 지역민을 위해 기억 보존, 학습, 공동체 형성, 치유, 트라우마 극복을 실천하는 방향으로 나아가야 한다. 본 연구를 기반으로 국내 기념관의 현황을 심층적으로 논의하고 해외 사례와의 비교를 통해 향후 실질적인 한국 기념관의 정책 방안을 모색할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to reconsider the significance of memorial museums, which go beyond exhibition spaces to preserve memories, shape socio-cultural identities, and connect the past with the present and future. Overseas memorial museums actively engage with local communities, expanding their functions and demonstrating a proactive and progressive approach. Examining advanced international cases reveals that the fundamental functions of Korean memorial museums—exhibition, education, and collection—should evolve to focus on memory preservation, learning, community building, healing, and overcoming trauma for local communities and residents. This study lays the groundwork for research on Korean memorial museums by analyzing various cases of overseas museum operations and related literature. Based on this research, a deeper discussion on the current status of Korean memorial museums can be conducted, and by comparing them with international cases, practical policy measures for the future of Korean memorial museums can be explored.
