국문 초록

우리나라 대학의 외국인 유학생의 수는 학령인구 감소와 국제화로 인해 2000년대부터 증가하는 추세이다. 외국인 유학생의 증가는 국내 외 학생 간의 다양한 문화 접촉 및 언어 노출 등으로 인하여 우리나라 대학의 국제경쟁력을 향상에 도움을 줄 수 있다. 그러나 급증하는 외국인 유학생 대비 대학 내 체계적인 교육환경은 충분히 마련되지 않아, 외국인 유학생의 한국 생활의 부적응에 따른 중도탈락률 역시 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 이러한 외국인 유학생의 중도탈락률 증가는 장기적으로 외국인 유학생 유치 및 대학의 국제화에도 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 학과 정원의 반 이상이 외국인 유학생으로 된 A대학 B학과의 성공적인 외국인 유학생 적응 사례를 분석함으로써, 국제화 수준 향상에 필요한 유학생 지원 방안을 통찰하고자 한다.

영문 초록

The number of international students in universities in Korea has been increasing since the 2000s due to a decline in the school-age population and globalization. The increase in international students can enhance the international competitiveness of Korean universities by promoting diverse cultural interactions and language exposure between Korean and international students. However, despite the rapid rise in the number of international students, Korean universities have not sufficiently established a systematic educational environment, leading to a continuous increase in dropout rates due to difficulties in adapting to life in Korea. The rising dropout rate of international students could have long-term negative effects on attracting international students and the overall globalization of Korean universities. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the successful case of international student adaptation in Department B at University A, where more than half of the students are international, to gain insights into effective support measures necessary for improving the level of globalization.
