Purpose - This study examines the impact of power attributes inherent within supply chains on supply chain sustainability by analyzing their relationships using power theory and interdependence theory. This study is original in that it identifies intangible dynamics and relationship within the supply chain and their impacts on supply chain performance. This approach can benefit organizations and governments seeking to improve the efficiency and performance of their supply chain.
Design/Methodology/Approach - A survey was conducted for one month in December 2023, targeting employees in supply chain-related departments in the Republic of Korea. Three hundred questionnaires were collected, and hypotheses were verified through structural equation modeling using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0.
Findings - The findings showed that coercive power had a significant positive effect on the quality of alternatives but not on satisfaction. Reward power had a significant negative effect on both the quality of alternatives and satisfaction. Legitimate power had a significant positive effect on both. Both the quality of alternatives and satisfaction had a significant positive effect on supply chain sustainability.
Research Implications - This study expanded on previous research by incorporating interdependence theory with coercive power, revealing new pathways to supply chain sustainability. Moreover, the findings highlight the potential of combining fundamental organizational factors and universal human features to yield novel outcomes. Specifically, combining abstract factors can create new pathways and generate quantitative results, providing practical implications for organizations considering corporate or organizational culture.
