대학 입학 전 전공결정이 대학생활에 미치는 영향 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 대학 입학 전 전공결정이 학생들의 대학생활에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 한국교육개발원에서 제공하는 「데이터 기반 대학교육혁신 모니터링 연구(II) 2주기 조사」 자료를 활용하였고, 전공결정에 따른 두 집단 간의 선택편의 문제 해결을 위해 경향점수매칭 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 대학 입학 전 전공결정 여부에 따른 두 집단 간에 대학생활에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 대학 입학 전 전공을 결정한 학생들의 경우 대학의 전공 수업 및, 교육서비스, 대학생활 전반에 대한 만족도가 전공을 결정하지 않은 학생들과 비교할 때 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 대학 입학 전 전공을 결정한 학생들의 경우 중도탈락 의향도 더 낮은 수준으로 나타났다. 또한, 대학 입학 전 전공을 결정하지 않은 학생들의 특성을 살펴본 결과 대학소재지와 전공계열별로 차이가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이상 분석 결과를 바탕으로 전공결정의 의미와 학생들의 의미있는 대학생활 지원을 위한 시사점을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines the impact of pre-admission major decisions on students' university experiences. Using data from the 2022 “Data-Based University Education Innovation Monitoring Research (II) 2nd Cycle Survey” provided by the Korea Educational Development Institute, the analysis employed propensity score matching to address selection bias between groups based on major selection decisions. The analysis revealed that students who entered university without deciding on a major reported lower satisfaction with major-related courses, educational services, and overall university life compared to those who had selected a major prior to admission. Additionally, students without a predetermined major demonstrated a higher likelihood of considering withdrawal from their studies. Furthermore, an analysis of the characteristics of students who had not selected a major prior to matriculation highlighted significant differences based on university location and field of study. These results underscore the importance of pre-admission major decisions and provide actionable insights for supporting students in achieving meaningful and fulfilling university experiences.
