This paper presents and discusses a distinct type of verbalcoordination in Korean, where the final verb is semantically incompatible with the sharedobject, violating its selectional restrictions. Despite this semantic mismatch, suchcoordinations remain acceptable, indicating a need for a more nuanced explanation. To address these cases, the paper proposes a semantic taxonomy-based analysis. It arguesthat when the final verb in a verbal coordination is semantically incompatible with theobject, a direct hyponym of the object is instead associated with the verb. This approachhighlights the limitations of previous analyses and underscores the importance ofsemantic relationships in verbal coordination. The paper extends this account todisjunctions in verbal coordination, demonstrating its broader applicability. Ultimately,this study shows that understanding Korean verbal coordination requires carefulconsideration of both syntactic structures and underlying semantic relationships, therebycontributing to a more comprehensive understanding of coordination phenomena innatural language.
