뇌성마비 성인의 삶의 질 변화와 전환점에 관한 질적 연구: 신체상과의 관계

국문 초록

연구목적 본 연구는 뇌성마비 성인의 삶의 질 변화와 그 변화에 영향을 미치는 전환점을 탐구하고, 그들의 삶의질과 신체상 간의 관계를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구방법 뇌성마비 성인 4명을 대상으로 개별 반구조화 면접을 통해 질적 데이터를 수집하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 연구 참여자들의 삶의 질 변화는 세 개의 시기로 구분되었다; (1) 출생부터 고등학교까지의 부정적인 시기, (2) 고등학교부터 20대 초반까지의 인생의 전환점의 시기, (3) 20대 초반부터 현재까지의 전반적인 삶의 질 안정과 건강에 대한 우려의 시기. 둘째, 연구 참여자들은 “혼자” 또는 “스스로” 어떤 일을 해본 경험이 삶의 질 향상에 중요한 전환점이 되었다고 공통적으로 보고하였다. 셋째, 삶의 질과 신체상 간에는 부분적으로 관계가 있는 것이 확인되었다; 신체상의 영역 중에서 ‘체력’과 ‘건강’은 삶의 질과 밀접한 관계가 있었으나, ‘외모’와는 유의미한 관계가 나타나지 않았다. 결론 본 연구는 뇌성마비 아동과 청소년의 삶의 질 향상을 위해 혼자 또는 스스로 할 수 있는 기회를 제공하여 독립성을 강화하고, 신체상 중 체력과 건강을 중점적으로 다루는 것이 중요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Purpose This study explored changes in quality of life (QOL) among adults with cerebral palsy (CP), identified turning points influencing variations in QOL, and examined the relationship between QOL and body image (BI). Method Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four Korean adults with severe physical disabilities due to CP to collect qualitative data. Results First, three phases of QOL changes were identified among participants: (1) a negative period from birth to high school, (2) a turning point with improvements in QOL from high school to early 20s, and (3) a phase of overall QOL stabilization accompanied by health concerns from early 20s to the present. Second, participants consistently reported significant turning points in QOL related to moments of personal independence, such as when they did things “alone” or “independently.” Third, a partial relationship between QOL and BI was identified: the ‘fitness’ and ‘health’ domains within BI were closely related to QOL, while the ‘appearance’ domain showed no significant relationship. Conclusion The findings emphasize the importance of fostering independence and addressing health-related aspects of BI in educational programs for children and adolescents with CP to enhance their future QOL.
