외국인 유학생의 성격5요인과 대학생활적응의 관계

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 외국인 유학생들의 대학생활적응에 영향을 미치는 변인으로 성격5요인을 선정하고 이들 간의 관계와 영향력을 분석하였다. 방법 부산 소재 대학에서 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 온·오프 설문조사를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 유효한 응답자 총 237명을 대상으로 SPSS 프로그램을 활용하여 신뢰도 분석, 기술통계분석, 단순회귀분석, 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 결과 다중회귀분석결과 성격5요인 중 친화성, 성실성, 정서적 안정성 및 개방성은 외국인 유학생의 대학생활적응을 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 단순회귀분석을 통해 성격5요인과 대학생활적응의 하위요인과의 관계를 분석한 결과 외향성은 사회적응에만 부적으로 유의한 관계에 있었다. 친화성, 성실성, 정서적 안정성과 개방성은 학업적응, 사회적응, 정서적응, 대학애착, 문화적응에 모두 정적으로 유의한 관계로 나타났다. 결론 본 연구를 통해 외향성은 대학생활적응 하위변인 중 사회적응에 부적으로 유의하게 영향을 미치고 있었다. 친화성, 성실성, 정서적 안정성과 개방성은 대학생활적응의 모든 하위변인에 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이 결과를 토대로 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 성격5요인이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향을 명확하게 구명하기 위해서 개별 성격요인과 대학생활적응 및 그 하위요인별로 구분하여 파악하는 것이 필요함을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to select Big five personality traits as variables that affect international stu dents' adaptation to college life and to analyze the relationships and influences among them. Methods Data were collected by online and offline survey on international students at a university in Busan. A total 237 valid respondents were used to conduct reliability analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, simple regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS program. Results The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that among the Big Five personality traits, agree ableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness had a significantly positive impact on college adaptation for international students. Through simple regression analysis, the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and the sub-variables of college adaptation was examined, revealing that extraversion had a sig nificantly negative relationship only with social adjustment. In contrast, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emo tional stability, and openness showed significant positive relationships with academic adjustment, social adjust ment, emotional adjustment, attachment to college, and cultural adaptation. Conclusions The study found that extraversion had a significantly negative impact on social adjustment, a sub-variable of college adaptation. In contrast, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and open ness were all found to have a significantly positive influence on all sub-variables of college adaptation. Based on these results, it is suggested that to clearly identify the effects of the Big Five personality traits on college adapta tion among international students, it is necessary to analyze each personality factor separately in relation to college adaptation and its sub-variables.
