국문 초록

This study examined companion animal ownership patterns and satisfaction levels across different age groups in Busan Metropolitan City, surveying 492 companion animal owners (70.33% female) from August to October 2020. Young adults in their twenties showed the highest rate of overall companion animal ownership (51.02%), with significant age-related differences particularly in cat ownership (χ2=47.093, p<.001). Satisfaction levels varied significantly among age groups (F=13.743, p<.001), with those in their twenties reporting the highest satisfaction (M=4.09, SD=0.53) and those in their fifties showing the lowest (M=3.46, SD=0.60). Emotional stability (28.87%) and loneliness alleviation (27.37%) were primary benefits across all ages, while companion animal mediated family communication increased with age (20s: 21.26% to 60s: 32.50%). This findings highlight the necessity of developing age-specific companion animal ownership support policies and targeted programs, considering the distinct psychosocial benefits that vary across different age groups.
